Re: Large Pilot
Hi Monty While I don't have flying experience I am restoring a nipper at the moment. I am 6' 3" and 90 kgs and have sat comfortably in a nipper with the tall pilot modification. I suspect the MK 3 with the raked back canopy may make for more room as that was the one I tried. The only problem I ...

Re: Help with wing rib drawing
Hi Stuart Thanks for the help very much appreciated. That all makes sense. It is funny how you can stare at the plans for hours and not connect details now you have pointed out the purpose of the block I can see what is going on. I have found a number of dimensions are incorrect and inside dimension...

Help with wing rib drawing
Hi guys I am working my way through constructing the wing ribs and have a question about ribs 1 left and right. At the end of each rib next to the spar I cannot make out if there is a solid spruce block next to the spar or quite what there is supposed to be.It appears from the plan that the ends are...

Happy Christmas to you as well. Have been in NZ for 38 years but still can't get used to a barbecue on Christmas Day.
Still not made a start on the nipper as all efforts going into getting the Menestrel flying this summer.

Re: Nipper 36
Hi Ben that's great news. I understand that was registered as ZK-CAP at one stage before if went to Aussie. It was the only Nipper to find its way to New Zealand and I have spoken to a couple of guys here who had flown it when it was based down at Masterton. I have looked at getting the CAP registra...

Re: Elevator control rod
Hi Jim Thanks for the reply. I suspected it may be something like that. I like the idea of the adjustable end on the rod it is far better to be able to make small adjustments like that. I have incorporated a similar idea on the flap rods on my Menestrel as it was just about impossible to get the fla...

Elevator control rod
Hi all Just googling away the evening I came across a technical built in from the UK CAA talking about mandatory replacement of an elevator control rod on all T66 aircraft. The instruction given was that part number T66-c/512 must be replaced with part number T66-C/5009. It is dated 1995 so is quite...

Re: Strombergs and other stuff
Hi We have no nippers here at the moment apart from my pile of metal bits. There was a Nipper here many years ago ZK-CAP but after a couple of mishaps it ended up in Aussie and I believe its on the British register now. I decided to rebuild the Nipper as it was an aircraft that was around when I lea...

Re: Strombergs and other stuff
Hi To answer your last question first it should be possible to run both the Leburg and a magneto. The magneto can be driven from the rear of the crankshaft and the Leburg can be triggered from the rear of the prop hub. So theoretically both will work but you will just have to make sure there is a wa...

Re: Cockpit size
Hi Stuart
Thanks for the info I suspect you are correct. I think I will look at modifying the turtle deck and sloping the first frame. I have to say I was surprised to find I could sit quite comfortably in Neil's aircraft which does have the sloping frame.
Thanks again
Rgds Steve

Re: Cockpit size
Hi Stuart I would be interested to know if your aircraft is a mk2 or 3. I have the same vital statistics as you and am just embarking on a restoration of a Mk 2, I think, with the more upright frame at the back of the cockpit. I have tried Neil's nipper for size and had no problem at all but he had ...

Re: Propeller Information required
Hi Stuart Yes that's a great help. The program I am using suggests 56 x 33 but of course there are an infinite number of combinations of blade width and thickness that you can fiddle with so knowing what actually works helps me whittle those down a bit. If anyone else can put forward what they are u...

Propeller Information required
Hi All I was just wondering if any of you flyers have time could you let me know a bit of information about your engine/ propeller setup for those of you with VW derived engines. I am working with a propeller design program that requires the following info: 1. Cruise speed 2. Engine size (1835,2100 ...

NZ Nipper
Hi everyone I thought I would just write a few lines to introduce myself. I am based in Auckland NZ and have recently acquired a Nipper to restore. I have built a Jodel D18 zk-scj in the past and am putting the finishing touches to a Menestrel. I was planning my next project and have always admired ...

I asked Neil to check for me and it looks like 3/32" cable is used for all three control runs.
