Alternative carburettor.

Postby Neil Spooner » Wed May 22, 2024 1:36 pm

This is following on from my post re' the Zenith carb but with a more relevant Subject line.

The Zenith KLP 10 carb' was only designed for a 600cc engine (BMW Isetta bubble car), I would imagine that the Ardem installation featured larger jets etc. As an alternative side draught carb' I have done some research and would suggest the Mikuni HSR 42 carb' to be a viable alternative, it is very "tunable", so after a flange made to suit it I would think it would work. They are available freely, some on ebay etc. I would think that they may have a higher profile to the Zenith, so a bump may be necessary on the top of the cowling.

Being a slide carb' they will be less prone to carb' ice, but not immune. They should have very good airflow characteristics. It has a standard float chamber, so will not work under negative G.

This is the tuning manual:

CAVEAT: I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CARB', IT IS FITTED AT THE OWNERS/OPERATORS OWN RISK. I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY.
A little help goes a long way.
