Firewall finish

Postby richard » Mon Feb 02, 2009 8:12 pm

I have firewall and was wondering how they were finished. Mine looks like it has been painted which is probably not the thing to do, was the metal just polished? or is it coated with something?
Many thanks Richard

Hi Richard,

My firewall is also painted, and I'm quite sure it was delivered like that from Slingsby.

BTW: Do you also still own AVTC?

Richard,
On Slingsby Nippers the firewall is cadnium plated and normally requires no further treatment. The firewalls had been manufactured by Fairey (or Coblavia) and were embodied into the Slingsby production aircraft.
If yours is in good condition then it will require no further treatment. If not then a painted finish will smarten it up (see).

(ignore rectifier and wiring details which have subsequently been changed. Recess is to enable Leburg system to fit)
