Our Nipper is Ardem powered. Starting is poor to say the least. We suspect the Zenith carburetor but before opening it up we'd like to source the gaskets and O-rings for it.
Does anyone have any clue as to where these can be obtained ? We tried Rudies in Berlin and Burlen in the UK, they have nothing.
Tnx in advance for any info.

Re: Ardem X
I have the same engine and carburettor and, although it is working fine, I had great difficulty in finding anybody who recognised the part (including Zenith!) and no success in sourcing a set of spares. The only response I had was on a call to a specialist who said " I haven't seen one of them in years!".
I was lucky enough to find one in the flea market at the rally years ago and hold that in case I need to cobble together a replacement from the two. Otherwise I have also got a CD150 which seems to be the unit of choice for VWs with plentiful spares but would need quite significant plumbing changes.
Perhaps the best option would be to investigate the alternative suggested by Neil. I shall certainly do so - just in case.
Having thought of this then perhaps I could strip the spare and reverse engineer the O rings etc. and generate a spares list for parts from available sources.

Re: Ardem X
I recently had my carburettor fully overhauled by Coln Engineering Ltd, Gloucester. This small company specialises in vintage car and motorcycle carburettors. Whilst they do not carry spares for the Zenith type, they proved very capable at managing the repair of mine which is now starting and running very nicely.

Re: Ardem X
Thanks for the response. This is very useful information.
After a thorough analysis by my friend Marco Raijmakers, we came to the conclusion that the starting problem is due to the perpendicular force on the shaft of the magnet, which causes the impulse coupling to be pulled too hard by the chain and doesn't work properly.
Now the chain is a little looser and that causes the magnet to work and the engine to start. Problem solved!
But having a backup company who can overhaul old carburators is very good to now. Thanks.
