Hi all.
has anyone else got the magura/sachs hydraulic brakes fitted???
I can't get mine to work at all, and i can't find replacement pads ( circular discs 28mm)
Alternatively, any other suggestions for replacement brakes???
Thanks
Neil

Re: brakes
The calipers are SACHS, as Des previously mentioned in the forum. Can't find any part numbers, or anything similar on the net. no pads available as far as i can see.
They have totally given up now.
Has anyone the mod to use minimoto / mountainbike brakes?????
It'd be nice to be able to stop on tarmac!!!!

Re: brakes
Hi Neil,
In the event of you not being able to get replacements, it is possible to machine "stock" friction material from a standard set of car brake pads and attach them to the back plates with a high temperature metal "glue".
If you really get stuck and are unable then send me the pad backing and I will knock up a set.

Re: brakes
Hi Neil, I had exactly the same issues when I first got FE trying to figure out how to bleed them. I'm away on a stag weekend from tomorrow morning then on the red eye to london on Monday but will be back on Tues night and I'll get my home made nipper bleeding kit in the post to you along with a full set of instructions as to how to use it and get best results.
As Neil S states you can machine some standard car pads, I had done some practice ones already using a Hole saw for when the time came which I might have still laying around and will send to you. Will just be a case of sticking them to the backing plate with araldite and then cutting / sanding them back to a sutbale thickness as I'm pretty sure they will be a bit too big as they are.
Still need to bleed the Cassutt brakes as one of them is a little spongy, not so much of an issue in the Nipper but frightening given the landing speed of the cassutt if they decide to stop working!
Cheers

Update on the brakes..
I removed the calipers and took them to my workshop. after much trawling of the internet, i've discovered that they are Sachs PowerDisc brakes from 1994. they were bought out by SRAM who make the AVid brakes, but they are discontinued regarding spares.
The pads in there at the moment look home-made ( no anti-rotation tab). one side had a magura Julie pad glued to a washer. if the offset tabs are taken off the magura pad, they just fit in the available diameter, but need the padding to make them thicker.
I think i'll just modify the Magura pads from now on. The calipers work fine. I have replaced the plugged bleed nipples with standard nipples, that seal up fine ( the original system just had a screw to seal). This will make it easy to bleed, by injecting fluid from the low set nipples, which forces the air up to the handle.
Just waiting to put it all back on the nipper - this is when having the aircraft 78 miles away is a bit of a pain!!
