Jabiru exhaust fumes

Postby RobW » Tue May 24, 2011 9:36 pm

Calling all Jabiru Nipper owners - do you find that exhaust fumes enter your nipper (especially when flying slowish, e.g. less than 70 mph)??

As 'FE drips a bit of oil from the push-rod tubes it might be oil smoke rather than exhaust fumes, but either way I end up smelly after a flight and I'd like to fix it! No headaches etc, so I'm not too concerned about CO yet (but I might be in winter when I close the fresh air vent!).

I've heard rumours that some Jab nippers have a 'wind deflector' underneath which might help steer exhaust fumes away from the 'bungee gap' in the belly. Anybody got any photos of this, as I'd like to give it a try before I do anything more radical? It might also help stop the grass collecting in the tail...?

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,
may not be applicable in your Nipper, but I had an X-Air Falcon once which was fitted with a Jab. Exactly the same problem; cured by fitting 6" exhaust extension tubes. Perhaps a similar approach might help on yours. Gonna have to drop in for a nosey soon - your literally round the corner! Or should that be round the bend? Very Happy

Thanks Gary - feel free to drop in, but watch out as I need a few spares Smile
Frosty's strip is a bit tight, especially if the wind favours a downhill landing. At least the grass is quite long at the moment, which helps with the braking! Round the bend isn't far off.

Let me know if you're about this Saturday, otherwise it'll have to be some time in June - maybe father's day at Priory Farm??
Cheers,
Rob

Oops - bit late replying. I'll be on FlyUK 19th June so no go there - I buzzed past on a low approach the other day in my Shadow but nobody home unfortunately.

Will catch you sometime though Smile
